Understanding your lottery return

This article only applies to self-licenced lotteries on Your School Lottery and One Lottery. 

Lottery return definitions

Proceeds of the lottery - Ticket sales

Amounts deducted by the promoters of the lottery in respect of the provision of prizes (including the provision of any prizes in accordance with any rollover) - the weekly guaranteed prize amount (30%)

Amounts deducted by the promoters of the lottery in respect of other costs incurred in organising the lottery - the administration fee + jackpot insurance fee. (24% + 6)

Any amount applied to a purpose for which the promoting society is conducted  - (society funds) this is the amount received after all the deductions (40%)

Whether any expenses in connection with the lottery were paid otherwise than by deduction from proceeds, and , if they were: i)the amount of the expenses ii) The sources from which they were paid - this will include any donations to increase the guaranteed weekly prize, and any jackpot wins. 

How to check your lottery return

Please note:

• Your lottery return will not include winners donations as these are counted as gifts. 
• Your lottery return covers an 8-week period, but we pay ticket proceeds monthly. This means that the total society funds will not match the payments you have received
• The weekly amounts in the lottery return detail should match up with the weekly payments breakdown, so we recommend this is how you reconcile your return

How to check payments against the lottery return 

1. The lottery return email from us will include two files: Lottery return and Lottery return detail. You can use the detail file to check your return 
2. Compare the society funds amount with your payments breakdown amount
   1. To find your payments breakdown amount, please go to 'Menu' then 'Payments' in the Dashboard.
   2. Next to the relevant payment, click 'View' to check week by week
